Competitive Coaching

Mike Thompson
Head Coach - Competitive

Mike's swimming career spanned from 1986-2001. He medaled many times at provincials and junior nationals, and has competed on an international level. He has trained with the Region of Waterloo Swim Club (ROW) and the Newmarket Stingrays through high school. Although Mike was offered scholarships to 3 schools in the US, he decided to stay in Canada and attend Wilfrid Laurier University in Ontario. He was voted Rookie of the Year 1998-99 and was a CIS all-star 1998-2001, medaling several times at both OUAs and CIS championships.

Mike joined the Blue Fins after the start of the 2005/2006 season and has made many positive contributions to the coaching staff and our Junior Competitive swimmers. Prior to the Blue Fins, Mike's coaching experience ranged from children eight and under, Masters Swimming, Age Group level, Special Olympics and Canadian Inter-University.

Mike spent time learning under some of the best coaches in Canada and his philosophy is rooted in fundamentals. He believes that Georgetown has many spectacular athletes in its community. He looks forward to helping them emerge.

Chris Henderson
Assistant Head Coach - Competitive

Chris recently joined the team in 2008 and is a Blue Fins alumnus.  In fact, his name still appears on our record board.  He attended many swim camps and has had the opportunity to train under many great coaches(including Jan Biderman).

Chris's experience ranges all levels of competition from Regional, Provincial and National.  In high school he swam and was captain of the Georgetown Rebels swim team and led his team to OFSAA gold on more than one occasion.  He later attended the University of Waterloo and graduated with a BA in Social Development Studies and a diploma in Social Work.

Prior to settling in Georgetown, Chris traveled across Canada with his fiance, and lived in Whistler, BC, where he spent a great deal of time snowboarding and teaching cross-country skiing.  In addition to coaching our Blue Fins, he works as a Personal Trainer.

Chris is the primary coach for the Junior level swimmers and will focus on enhancing their skills and endurance in preparation for higher level competitions.
